Learning Objective: To establish the method needed to create a successful film trailer.
Conventions of a horror movie trailer:
- Slower pace at start
- Follows main characters throughout
- Editing gets faster
- Flashes
- Dramatic music
- Jump scares become more frequent
- Killer reveal
- Follows story line vaguely
Ingredients:
- Unsuspecting, normal people
- Villain (psychopath, monster)
- A weapon or person with powers
- Dramatic Music to add fear
- Isolated place/ town
- Jump scares
- Increasing pace
Recipe:
- Unsuspecting people and their friends/ enemies get wrapped up in a dramatic plot.
- Then add some suspense and drop some clues so clues so that the characters know that they are in trouble.
- Scene editing quickens as people start getting picked off one by one.
- Throw in some close-ups showing terror and fear into the mix.
- Add some barriers so that the good guys get held up and the audience starts to get annoyed and then when the audiences attention is there, add a jump scare to make them scared.
- Add some dramatic music and screaming and background noise.
- Quicken the pace of the shots and add some blood and intense scenes. Flash images so the audience grips their armrest fear.
- Slow it down and make the audience think that the killer is dead so they can make one last appearance and scare the unknowing audience one last time before their satisfying end.
