Learning Objective: To explore the conventions and purposes of documentary film making.
Documentary Film Definition: A documentary film is a nonfictional motion picture intended to document some aspect of reality, primarily for the purposes of instruction, education, or maintaining a historical record.
1- What is the purpose of documentary film making?
Their goal is to make people aware of a certain cause or injustice with the hope that their film will help inspire the world to demand change.
2- What are the common conventions of documentary film making in terms of imagery, sound, edition and mise-en-scene?
- Narrator
- Varied camera angles
- Music that fits what is happening on the screen
- Diegetic (real) and diegetic (added) sound
- Graphics can be used to give extra information
- Interviews
- Real life footage of events
3- Why is this documentary important in terms of raising awareness of the natural world?
This particular documentary (Planet Earth II) is important as it raises awareness to that fact that many animals can live in peace with humans if we allow them to. It also raises awareness about how humans are ruining the natural world for many animals due to urbanisation, but puts forward some ideas of how we can protect the Earth.
Documentary Pitch- Deforestation:
It would be set around the world in rainforests and places where deforestation rates are high. it wold include what deforestation does to animals and how it affects the natural people and the worldas a whole.
